Cyber Security Tips – UPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE

Cyber Security Tips – UPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE

Keeping your software and applications up to date is one of the easiest ways to protect your accounts and information. A survey conducted by NCA revealed that only 36% of the participants installed the latest updates and software as soon as they became available. Of those who installed the latest updates, 62% had turned on the automatic update feature. This means that approximately 2 in 5 respondents either “sometimes,” “rarely,” or “never” install software updates.

Don’t let the “remind me later” button be your go-to option. Take action to stay one step ahead of cybercriminals. Cybersecurity Awareness Month is the perfect opportunity to become more proactive about software updates.

OUR TIPS AND ADVICE

Keeping software up to date is an easy way to improve your digital security. For added convenience, turn on the automatic updates in your device or application security settings for added convenience.

KEEP SOFTWARE UP TO DATE WITH THESE STEPS:

  1. Check for notifications: Devices and applications will usually notify you when the latest software updates become available, but it’s also important to check periodically. Software updates include devices’ operating systems, programs, and apps. Installing ALL updates, especially for web browsers, antivirus software, or apps with financial or sensitive information is CRUCIAL!
  2. Install updates as soon as possible: When a software update becomes available, especially critical updates, be sure to install them as quickly as possible. If attackers won’t wait, neither should you.
  3. Turn on automatic updates: With automatic updates, devices will install updates as soon as they become available. Simple, right? In most cases, users can look in the device settings, usually under Software or Security, to turn on the automatic updates feature.

Remember, keeping your software up to date is an easy way to improve your digital security.
